What reviewers say
The touchscreen is the big change. Reviewers say typing and menus are much quicker than the Mini 2's button scrolling, though the small keyboard is easy to mistype. The larger battery helps on paper, but testers say the Mini 2 already lasted well on most trips. Several reviewers think the base Mini 3 isn't a must-have upgrade for current Mini 2 owners, while the Plus is the stronger case if you want voice and photos. New buyers get the better screen either way.
Good
- Much easier texting than older Minis
- Global SOS and two-way messaging
- Long battery life
Not so good
- Subscription required
- Slightly bigger and heavier than the Mini 2
- Small on-screen keyboard
Who it's for
Anyone going beyond cell coverage: backpackers, paddlers, hunters and riders. Mini 2 owners happy with it can wait.
