What reviewers say
There is little independent testing of a simple pump like this. Owners on the NRS site rate it a solid 4.1 of 5, and NRS includes it in its basic and deluxe touring safety kits. The foam float is the feature that matters most, since a pump that sinks when dropped is no help. At 21 inches it takes some planning to stow in a short cockpit.
Good
- Floats and is easy to spot
- Moves water fast
- Rust-resistant hardware
- Low cost safety item
Not so good
- Long to stow in short kayaks
- Owner ratings are good, not great
- Needs both hands, so practice before you need it
Who it's for
Anyone paddling a sit-inside kayak or canoe, especially on cooler or bigger water. Sit-on-top owners with scupper holes rarely need one.
