What reviewers say

Testers agree this is a load hauler. It feels so-so empty but settles in well once you put 30 pounds or more in it, and the fit adjustments on the shoulder straps, hipbelt and torso get high marks. The trade-off is weight: at around five pounds it is one of the heavier packs in most comparison tests. One long-time reviewer noted it lost the old suspended mesh back, so it runs warmer than earlier Osprey designs. REI buyers rate it 4.6 of 5, with the side compression straps as the most common gripe.

Good

  • Very good with heavy loads
  • Lots of fit adjustment
  • Front panel access and a raincover in the box

Not so good

  • Heavy for its size
  • Back runs warm
  • Overkill for light, short trips

Who it's for

Backpackers carrying full kits, group gear or winter loads on multi-day trips. Light-and-fast hikers should look at a lighter pack.
